🎃 The traditions behind your favorite fall decor

When you’re shopping for pumpkins at HomeGoods or your local patch, did you know you're taking part in a tradition that actually goes back centuries?

Decorating with pumpkins stems from the Irish legend of Stingy Jack, which inspired people to carve scary faces into turnips to ward off spirits.

When Irish immigrants came to America, they found that pumpkins were bigger, easier to carve, and perfectly timed with fall harvests, and that's how the jack-o’-lantern as we know it was born.

Of course, pumpkins quickly became more than just creating scary faces. They're tied to the fall season, and are one of the most popular ways to add warm and cozy autumn vibes to your home.

Whether you’re stacking them on the porch, surrounding the fireplace with them, or adding mini ones throughout your home, pumpkins can be the perfect (and easiest) way to celebrate the feeling of fall. So next time you bring one home, know you’re carrying on a mix of folklore, history, and good old-fashioned fall fun.

☕️ 🙌 A fall staple: Enjoying the PSL at home & around Northwest OKC

It’s the drink that has us counting down the days until coffee shops add it back to the menu. The Pumpkin Spice Latte has become an all-time fall favorite and a signal that the autumn season is officially here.

So let's make the most of it! Here's your copycat recipe so you can recreate it at home + your guide to where to find the best PSL in town.

INGREDIENTS: 1 cup milk 2 tbsp pumpkin puree 1-2 tbsp sweetener of choice to taste - such as brown sugar or maple syrup 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 2 oz espresso or 8 oz fresh-brewed coffee *Whipped cream topping optional

INSTRUCTIONS In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the milk, pumpkin puree, sweetener, pumpkin pie spice, and vanilla. Heat until hot but not boiling, stirring often. Optional: Carefully use a whisk or frother to make it foamy for that coffee-shop vibe. Pour the hot milk mixture into a mug, then add your coffee or espresso. Stir gently. ​

You can top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice for a garnish if you like. Or, also add ice to create an iced PLS with the same ingredients.
